Sport and Sustainability International General Assembly
Sport and Sustainability International held its annual statutory meeting on 12 December 2020. The online event gave opportunity to the around 30 Members present to influence SandSI’s work. Apart from the approval of the yearly budget and activities, the Assembly unanimously re-elected Julia Palle and Vincent Gaillard, respectively, as President and Vice-President, as well as elected Ingrid Beutler as a new Board Member.
The Stadium is on Fire
In 2015, English football got a glimpse of the future when the torrential rain accompanying storm Desmond saw Carlisle United’s Brunton Park flooded and the club forced out of the stadium for seven weeks, at considerable financial cost. SandSI (Sport and Sustainability International) caught up with David Goldblatt, football historian, author and moderator of the 1st Football4Climate webinar which featured professional players from Juventus, Sampdoria, Paris Saint-Germain.
Launch Football4Climate
On Monday, May 25th, Sport and Sustainability International (SandSI) launched Football4Climate, a programme that seeks to leverage the power of football to drive climate awareness and action amongst the wider football industry. A virtual gathering of football fans from 39 different clubs and 21 different countries, discussed the implications of climate change on football with an emphasis on the professional level and the players’ on-field perspectives.
